When Bill first shows up in the Manga, he scares Red and Green away because of his hideous human appearance, his hideous appearance came from not taking care of himself correctly. His wife probably had gotten tired of trying to make Bill take care of himself and didn't want to be around when his bad habits finally caught up with him. In his third and final appearance of the Manga, he begins to look better. Theory wise is that he began to practice better hygiene habits and started to take care of himself more, because he was trying to get his wife to come back home. Realistic reason, the artist of the Pocket Monsters Manga was just trying to draw Bill closer to his Game Artwork, but who cares about the realistic views.
The question if she left because he was working has came up, but was proven wrong. Since his wife worked with him, and when she wasn't working with him, she would just love to sit there and watch Bill work, his obsession with work had never bothered her, in fact it was one of the reasons she was so drawn to him in the first place. So Bill being a workaholic never became a problem.
It's unknown if divorce papers were actually signed or not, or if they're actually married. Some people say that say that she just got up and left him during the middle of the night, and that no divorce papers were signed and that they're still married.]]
